Dead Musicians

morrison_grave_07132Hey, it’s a gloomy, rainy Saturday afternoon here in Northern California, so let’s talk about…DEATH!

When a musician dies before their time the record companies, vultures that they are, flood the market with reissues, compilation packages, tee shirts and more to capitalize on the recently departed and the new found publicity their passing creates.

What also usually happens is a critical reevaluation of said artists back catalogue, and more often than not it’s reviewed with rose tinted glasses. The dead artist is often lauded as a genius, and I’m not so sure that it’s applicable in most cases. Some are beyond debate (Elvis, John Lennon, Bob Marley, etc), but others…well, let’s just say that the hype doesn’t quite live up to the reality for me in some cases. Take a look at the below “List Of The Dead” and tell me what you think. Was Keith Moon a phenomenal ahead-of-his-time drummer or was he simply a goof ball with marginal skills behind the kit?
